I was born and raised in the Midwest. As a little girl, I took a particular interest in painting and drawing. It was my grandmother who cultivated my hobby by allowing me to use her oil paints and canvases, and by sending me to art tutors in our area. I spent the majority of my grade school and high school years drawing, painting and reading. My college experience was thus predictable: I studied studio art, with a concentration in painting, and I minored in English literature.
After earning my bachelor’s degree, I settled for a while on the East coast, at one time living in Boston, then in New York City. I adopted my daughter in New York, an event that changed my life thoroughly and radically. It was shortly thereafter that I relocated. Fed up with life in an overcrowded city, I moved to California, where weather is better and the closets are bigger.
My interests are varied. I love to be with my family, to travel, to drive long distances, to listen to NPR, to spend long happy afternoons on the beach, to cook and bake from scratch, to grill, to write, and more than ever, I love to paint and read. My writing reflects my interests. Many of my articles focus on vegetarian cooking and baking, traveling, raising an adopted child, home maintenance, decorating, or a fusion of these topics. I have a cooking blog that focuses on vegetarian-friendly recipes for families.
