Any ideas on how long garlic will keep in the pantry?

I actually leave garlic in the fridge and it lasts a long, long time!

do you think it lasts better in the fridge than in the pantry?

Never put garlic in the pantry so I wouldn't know. I've been putting garlic in the fridge for years and it has not once become rotten, no matter how long. Once it gets peeled, however, you pretty much have to use it soon.

I skip the whole 'fresh' thing and used crushed garlic from a bottle. It lasts forever and tastes great

I would have to disagree with you Freddie, you cannot beat the taste and aroma of fresh garlic.

Agree. I use fresh garlic about three times a day. Here's a tip. If you have day-old rice, take a fork and separate the grains so they come unstuck. Prepare about 5 cloves of garlic, mash them. Heat a frying pan with a bit of cooking oil. Throw in the garlic. Saute until the garlic turns slightly brown. Throw in your old rice and saute it in the garlic. Salt and pepper to taste. It's the garlic that takes the boring out of rice!

Yum! That sounds really good and I'll have to try it. We also buy the minced garlic in the jar but I've recently bought a garlic press and will be buying fresh as its so much better. Its nice to know it will store for a long time but as we love garlic, it probably won't last long here.
