I just found out today that my 5 year old Lilac Siamese is diabetic. The vet wants to start her on insulin. I asked about changing her diet and he recommended purina d/m. While researching diabetic cat diets I found out that giving a cat dry food is not a good thing to do. I asked the vet for can food and he suggested the dry would be better for her. Can anyone else with this health issue please shed some light on a better diet for this cat. Also, I'd much rather give her a pill than insulin, or better yet try to see if a change in diet would help. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Have you talked to a holistic vet yet?

If the vet is recommending the insulin shots I'd do that before I changed the cats diet. Otherwise your cats kidneys could shut down while you are "trying" the diet only. I had a cat that I had to give insulin shots to but he just wasn't responding well to the insulin and his kidneys shut down so I had to put him to sleep. It was the hardest thing I've every had to do when it comes to my pets.
