Anyone have thoughts about spending a few extra bucks on paint for the inside of the house. We bought some 'brand x' stuff to do the kids room... then bought some Behr and noticed a huge differance on how the paint went on... and how quickly the 'paint smell' went away. From now on in, I will sped a bit more as I found it was worth it.

We use Behr because it washes well after sticky fingers have created masterpieces on the walls. Originally we had used a cheap Wal-Mart brand but buyer beware - ketchup and mustard portraits of the family dog DON'T come out with it. Buy the better brand and save the headache later.

You always get what you pay for. With paint, the colors will be brighter, and the job will last much longer when you spend the extra buck. I think it is well worth the extra investment.

The better brand is well worth it in the end. If you find a color that you like in opps paint you can save as well.

I personally like Dutchboy kids for my daughters room.  It cleans up wonderful- plus it isn't dull looking.  I also noticed that when you purchase Dutchboy instead of the generic or a less expensive paint- you do not need as many coats.  I think it all equals out in the long run.  Less coats = less paint.

I have never used Behr.  Is it really good?  How much per gallon?

I, too, have tried he cheap paint and now believe in buying a higher quality. I like Valspar and Behr just about equally.

The real difference for me was in my time. The cheaper paint took multiple coats and just did not roll on as smoothly. It took at least twice as long to paint the room. In my opinion, the few extra bucks I saved were just not worth that extra time that it took.

There is also a big difference in the smell of the paint, as David mentioned above.

Good thinking on choosing paint. It is no point in saving extra few bucks when you want to paint your house. You want the paint to last long for and easy to wipe off or clean in case the walls get dirty. One does not want the paint to come off when wiped with damp cloth. I also observed that cheap color paint takes more time to dry and the smell lasts long.
