How often is it really necessary to have a check up during your pregnancy? I went about once a month for the first 6 months and then once every two weeks for the last two.

Whew! I would have loved that routine. My pregnancy was deemed "high-risk" almost from the start because of high blood pressure. I saw the doctor every two weeks. For the last five months, I had to stop at the doctor's office every weekday on my way to work to have my blood pressure recorded. Then one day when it got too high they said, go back home and go to bed!
I was in bed for six weeks, and at that point I saw the doctor once a week (my husband had to drive me -- I wasn't allowed to drive). Then she arrived. And guess what? Perfect delivery, perfect health, no problems for either of us.
It was a pain to have all those doctor visits, but I would do it all again. I'm sure my doctor's conservative approach is what led to such a successful pregnancy and delivery.

My check ups were once every three weeks or so, which got to be once a week as I got closer to my delivery dates. I also have five scans in between all this too.

The typical prenatal care schedule in the first trimester is that you are seen every four (4) weeks or about once a month. On the ninth month, it would be required that the prenatal visit would be once a week.
