One of the goats was kidding and I couldn't leave her. The kid needed extra care and needs to be bottlefed.

Or (springtime) I had to go pick these (chicks) up at the post office and had to rush to get here. They have to be kept warm.

(I *DID* this one time and brought the kid to work with me. It was a shop office where I worked so easy to hide the kid under the desk...but the boss just laughed and said "well at least you aren't making it up!" It was a standing joke the rest of the time I worked there what other critters I'd bring to work.)
